The dinosaur-shear starts work at the Gaslini Hospital
On July 5th, the construction site of the new Gaslini Pediatric Hospital in Genoa came to life with the start of the first demolitions, attended by the Institute’s top management and local authorities.
A demolition shear “disguised” as a dinosaur began the demolitions, “eating” the first portions of the “Professional High School” building, which is part of pavilion 7, in an operation made unique and child-friendly thanks to dinosaur-themed entertainment organized by actors and acrobats in the area adjacent to the demolitions.

After the initial preparatory operations for the creation of the construction site area began in recent months, the demolition work of pavilions 7 and 8 has started. The intervention will clear the area for the subsequent construction of the new Pavilion Zero, at the end of which phase 1 of the Nuovo Gaslini construction site will be completed. The scheduled completion date for the structural works of the first phase is June 2026.

The work will be divided into 4 different phases, with a total duration of approximately 6 years. Phase 1 will see the completion of Pavilion Zero and the new Technological Center, while all interventions on the various pavilions undergoing restoration will be completed by 2030. In addition to the General Director of the Gaslini Hospital, Mr. Renato Botti, and the President of IRCCS Gaslini, Mr. Edoardo Garrone, the ceremony was attended by the Health Councillor of the Liguria Region, Mr. Angelo Gratarola, and the Social Services Councillor of the Municipality of Genoa, Mrs. Lorenza Rosso. Representing CMB, Mrs. Siriana Bertacchini, President of Zena Project, attended and explained how “the entire project is based on principles of energy and environmental sustainability that will characterize the new Pavilion Zero, and how even in this first phase of demolition, the sensitivity of young patients has been taken into account, turning it into play and imagination.”
