Firenze Tramway: Work on the parking lot in Bagno a Ripoli has commenced
Work has begun on the construction of tramline 3.2.1 Libertà-Bagno a Ripoli near Florence. Following the start of preliminary road resurfacing works, which will be used as alternative routes during construction, the actual construction works have now commenced. These include the clearance of wartime debris from the site where the park-and-ride facility will be built in Bagno a Ripoli. Subsequently, the areas of the new bridge over the Arno River will be addressed, extending to the terminus. On Saturday, April 6th, the mayor of Firenze, Dario Nardella, conducted an on-site inspection with Mobility Councillor Stefano Giorgetti and the mayor of Bagno a Ripoli, Francesco Casini.

“We are very pleased with the start of work on this parking lot,” commented Mayor Nardella. “It is a long-awaited project that will provide over 350 parking spaces. Together with the new one in Viale Europa, we will have over 500 spaces. This is an important service for the southeast quadrant of the Metropolitan City of Firenze, and a very concrete result because with the two park-and-ride lot, we will reduce traffic in this area by about 2,000 private vehicles per day, and also pollution, thanks to the intermodality with the tram.”

The parking lot in Bagno a Ripoli (358 parking spaces, including 22 with charging for electric vehicles) is intended to intercept traffic coming from the Pontassieve direction, as well as serve as the interchange node between the tram terminal and the future hub for extra-urban transportation.
The other park-and-ride facility will also incorporate the current Europa parking lot. Overall, there will be 468 parking spaces, including 44 spaces for charging electric vehicles, aimed at intercepting traffic from the highway.
