CMB is a leading Italian construction firm and one which is fully able to deal with and complete both large public constructions and private building work, from start to finish, including building maintenance. It is also in a position to deal with all aspects of project financing.
To celebrate the 110 years since its foundation, in a building sector scenario that is still hard hit by the economic crisis, the CMB cooperative still has a turnover of around 525 million Euros with a consistent order portfolio worth 2.7 billion Euros, and a volume of acquisitions that exceeds the budget objectives both in Italy and abroad.
Construction work is the company’s core business and accounts for over 80% of the net earnings, next to the segment of services and maintenance, which is growing consistently and steadily, especially with regard to hospitals.
Outside Italy, thanks to experience of CMB in the building of state-of-the-art health care facilities, it has been awarded the contract for the construction of the university hospital campus of the city of Odense, Denmark, for an overall value of around 585 million Euros, plus the extension and reconstruction of the university hospital campus of Koge. Both projects are highly complex and will be developed using BIM (Building Information Modeling), an already consolidated method for CMB, which improves the coordination between the planning and construction phases and the maintenance of the structures, thanks to the sharing of data and the digitalisation of the entire construction process.
At national level, the new contracts signed for the Hospital of Montecchio Maggiore (Vicenza), the student halls of residence of San Giobbe and Santa Marta in Venice, the bypass of Pordenone, the “Parco da Vinci” Shopping Centre in Rome, and the Lamborghini Paintshop in Sant’Agata Bolognese (Bologna) are worth mentioning. Added to this are the recent acquisitions of the modern “EVO” production facility for the company Bonfiglioli in Bologna. The latest most significant works taken on include the Headquarters of the Academy of the Finance Police in Bergamo and the social housing complex “Dea Capital” in the ex Boero area of Genoa.
It is above all in Milan, however, that CMB has contributed to shaping the territory, where it has carried out numerous projects that have changed the skyline of the regional capital. The Varesine, Citylife and the Feltrinelli Foundation skyscrapers, the tower of the Lombardy Region head offices, the residential complex “Città Contemporanea” in Cascina Merlata and now the new Unipol head offices and the headquarters of CAP Holding. All these works symbolise the cultural and architectural progress of this city and show the changes made in Milan, which is becoming an increasingly dynamic and European city. After all, over the last 10 years, real estate developments and construction works in and around Milan have accounted for over one third of the Group’s turnover with a constant growth rate of 7-8%.
“The most significant aspect of CMB is not merely down to its construction capacity”, according to Emiliano Cacioppo, Managing Director of CMB and Director of the Territories Division, “but also to its change-anticipating attitude. With this concept, a company has to develop in the same way as the territory itself. In Milan, we have upgraded important areas, anticipating and actively contributing to the metamorphosis of a city that is increasingly opening up to the world”.
“We can now confirm with satisfaction that in the year celebrating its 110th anniversary from its foundation, CMB is in a position to look towards the future with confidence and determination”, as the Chairman of CMB, Carlo Zini underlines. “Extraordinary results have been achieved thanks to the greater energy put in by the shareholders, who have believed in the company and led it to undertake a further path of balanced and sustainable growth”.
The company values, together with 110 years of experience, are in fact the driving force behind CMB, a modern Cooperative that brings with it an important history of its own. The company pays attention to the people and has succeeded in combining economic development with the increase in opportunities of employment, safety and social progress.
