New Gaslini: a Beacon of Excellence in Paediatrics in Genoa
The New Gaslini Hospital in Genoa was established through a comprehensive project focused on technological, organisational and functional innovation, made possible by a public-private partnership.
The objective is to create a flexible, welcoming and safe architectural space aligned with key environmental sustainability protocols. This challenge aims to shape the future of the institute, which has been a leading reference point for paediatric care, research, and medicine at an international level for eighty-five years. The New Gaslini is, therefore, poised to fully realise the vision of Senator Gerolamo Gaslini, who, in the 1930s, dreamed of creating an institute of excellence in memory of his daughter, who passed away at a young age.

Technical Description
The “Cantiere Nuovo Gaslini” construction plan includes the development of a new hospital pavilion, named “Pavilion Zero”, along with a technological centre and the renovation of five historical pavilions.
The project will be carried out in four stages, with a total duration of approximately six years. Stage 1 will see the construction of Pavilion Zero and the new Technological Centre, while all renovations of the various pavilions are expected to be completed by 2030.
During all stages of construction, the institute will continue its normal operations to ensure that children, families and staff members are respected and supported.

Padiglione Zero
Padiglione Zero (Pavilion Zero) will be the central hub for emergency and urgent care, housing all intensive care and surgical functions for children, expectant mothers and families. This development will enable the Gaslini Hospital in Genoa to achieve operational excellence by integrating cutting-edge technologies and providing high-quality care. The total number of beds at the Genoa hospital will increase to 493, adding approximately 50 more beds than its current capacity.
19 years of facility management
Once the construction of Pavilion Zero is complete, facility management services, including energy supply, will be provided for 19 years.
