Unipol Tower, a sustainable nest in the heart of Milan
The skyscraper was designed by the Mario Cucinella Architects studio and developed by CMB combining different materials
: steel, concrete, glass and, inside, bamboo. The building, with a shape resembling a nest, will house the new Milan offices of the Unipol group, commercial areas, a large auditorium with seating for 230 people, offices and a panoramic greenhouse-garden intended as a venue for covered events. It’s an innovative, technological and eco-sustainable skyscraper which, after the works developed at CityLife and Porta Nuova Varesine, has consolidated CMB’s experience in the development some of the most important towers in Milan.130

Technical Description
The Unipol Tower in Milan, developed by CMB for the insurance group, is 120 metres high and structured on 23 floors above ground and three underground with a total surface area of 33,000 m². The skyscraper, made in steel, concrete and glass, is characterised by a wide cavity on the south side and an external facade in metallic carpentry with a lattice of rhomboid shapes that end in a “crown” at the top, and a wide area with gardens enriched with essences and a glass greenhouse to be used as a venue for events. The building, made with the BIM model and part of CMB’s “Safe by Vocation” project, lies on a mat foundation that leaves space for the railway passage of the nearby Garibaldi station situated on the north side.
“This tower with an iconic look will characterise the entire area of Porta Nuova and Porta Garibaldi in Milan. It’s an example of technical excellence in a construction context, which combines technologies, design and environmental sustainability: an important professional achievement”.
