Tramway line in Bologna

Electricity makes its way through the streets of Bologna
The tram network is set to revolutionise mobility in Bologna. The Red Line and Green Lines bear the mark of CMB,
which has deployed its own resources for this ambitious and essential project, bound by the deadlines imposed by European funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). This is more than just the construction of two tram lines; it is an integrated project that connects various modes of transport and includes underground services beneath the road surface.8

Technical Description

“6 April 2023 is a historic day. Bologna will soon become more beautiful and sustainable, resulting in an approximate saving of 70,000 tonnes of CO2 annually”.
Matteo Lepore
Mayor of Bologna
“I have constructed infrastructure in Middle Eastern cities amidst chaotic traffic and numerous challenges. In Bologna, I face a new challenge: to build a future worthy of the city’s rich history.”
Nicholas Pederzoli
Head of Technical Services

Interchange car park: accessing the city centre without a car
Users of the interchange car park can access the tram stop via a pedestrian underpass, allowing them to travel to the city centre of Bologna without congesting the streets with their vehicles. The car park is integrated into the infrastructure and offers over 380 parking spaces and includes a multipurpose hall.
Micro-sites: the strategy that minimises traffic disruption
The construction sites are strategically designed to minimise traffic disruption. The route is divided into “line construction sites” comprising “micro-sites” that are activated progressively. These micro-sites will enable work to be carried out on individual sections of limited length, thus minimising the occurrence of multiple simultaneous works along entire road axes. Some micro-sites, lasting 2-3 days, are specifically planned to resolve interferences with intersecting underground services, thereby reducing the duration and impact of the main construction activities.
