Spark One and Spark Two: The “Non-identical Twin Towers” of Milan
The Santa Giulia district of Milan Rogoredo is part of a new urban regeneration project that includes the construction of two highly sustainable and technological office buildings. Spark One and Spark Two were designed by CMB with BIM technology in compliance with the quality standards set by the Australian-based Lendlease company. They are the first buildings in Italy to have obtained the requirements for both the LEED Platinum Certification and the WELL Gold Certification. Thanks to a division of the work and special attention to each phase of the construction, CMB was able to complete the work in just over two years.

Technical Description
Technologically speaking, CMB constructed the structures of the two building complexes with post-tensioned, cast-in-place reinforced concrete to reduce the size of the slabs; the technical systems are housed in the roof structure made of metal carpentry.
The façade of the two buildings is characterised by a glass envelope.Spark One features a sunblind system that changes shape to create a dynamic game of shadows, while its twin brother Spark Two is different and has a more rigorous profile. The closed spaces are separated by movable glass walls, while the floors are covered in carpet with a particular architectural pattern. CMB paid great attention to the creation of the project, proving once again to be up to the challenge.
Continuous comparison
Lendlease, a leading Australian real estate company, was in constant contact with CMB, monitoring the progress of the works: from the construction methods to the occupational health and safety aspects.
The goal is to obtain the LEED Platinum and WELL GOLD certifications, for the wellbeing of the working environment and people.
Dialogue with the client and the well-organised planning and sharing of the work by CMB sped up the working times on site.

“Near Zero” energy consumption
The two Spark One and Spark Two buildings aim for near zero energy consumption (Near Zero Emission Building). To maximise energy savings and reduce the impact on the environment, strong thermal insulation and photovoltaic systems were installed, which cover the entire surface of the roofs. In addition, during the design phase, great attention was paid to thermal bridges in order to mitigate heat loss.
